    RUSD Instructional Maps
    provide a guide for teacher teams as they plan together. Using the Achieve the Core Focus Documents to identify focus clusters, and the RUSD curriculum, teacher teams met during May 2015 to revise existing planning documents. Each site team should use these as a starting point for developing site-based pacing guides and common assessments throughout the year. (RUSD Interim Assessment Blueprints will be rolled out at the September Articulation Day.)

    RUSD Interim Blueprints outline the standards assessed in the fall and winter interim assessments. Teacher teams met in May 2015 to review SBAC Blueprints, Achieve the Core Focus Documents, SBAC Content Specifications, and RUSD curriculum to make an informed decision about which SBAC Interims to select. Each document provides the closing date, assessment title, claims, and standards addressed on the assessment. Each site team should use these blueprints to inform instruction leading up to the assessment. These two assessments provide feedback to teachers and students on the progress of student learning and should be considered along with other data points - such as site-based common assessments, classroom projects, teacher observation - to inform ongoing instruction throughout the year. Teachers can view the SBAC Interim Block Assessments by logging into the SBAC Interim Viewing system with their TOMS account (2014-2015 accounts are still valid; see your Test Site Coordinator for login information if needed). By viewing the assessment items, teachers can understand the skills, concepts and knowledge needed to be successful, which informs instructional planning. Items should not be shared with students prior to the the administration. The SBAC Interim Assessment Blueprints in ELA and Mathematics also provide information about the assessment targets addressed on each block. SBAC Interim Assessments that are not part of the RUSD district interim listed on the blueprints below may be used throughout the year by teacher teams as common assessments.

That said, we encourage all site grade-level teams to view the Math Performance Task in the Interim Assessment Viewing system, identify the skills/concepts/knowledge required for success on this task, and reflect on how ongoing classroom instruction can support student success on this type of assessment.

    Feedback:

    • Following past practice from the past four years, we bring teachers together in Spring 2016 to reflect on and revise the current Instructional Maps, Interim Blueprints, and make adjustments to the current RUSD assessment system. The goal is to ensure local assessments are a meaningful tool to improve teaching and learning. Part of this revision process will include reviewing survey feedback from teachers.
